Responsible for ensuring that food, dietary supplements, and cosmetics are safe and properly labeled. Also responsible for ensuring the safety and effectiveness of medicines (prescription drugs and over-the-counter), medical devices (from bandages to pacemakers), blood products, vaccines, and pet food and veterinary drugs. Regulates tobacco products and electronic products that emit radiation (such as microwave ovens and x-ray machines). Investigates complaints about their safety and publishes recall notices.
