Organizes and directs public health sanitation programs including food, institutional and recreational sanitation, children's camps, consumer product safety, bottled water, and swimming pool maintenance. Conducts epidemiological investigations, interprets sanitation laws for local health departments, and establishes and maintains liaisons with federal agencies and local health departments.

Programs that conduct research which focuses on disease, disability and trauma patterns within and across populations and the development of health management mechanisms to prevent and control disease outbreaks and injurious behaviors. Included are the study of biostatistics, biochemistry, molecular biology immunology, disease and injury determinants, genetic diseases and disability factors, behavioral studies, health services research, environmental disease and injury factors, and population studies.
